And this wasn’t a bad book, it just wasn’t for me. Why three stars then? Because I’ve read books that were a lot worse.

There were too many things that felt forced, like they were there added into ‘check a box’, including the ending that – for me – couldn’t come soon enough. Everything felt a bit ‘by the book’ – troubled children grow up to be troubled adults who can’t see the wood for the trees. I couldn’t picture them in my mind, and I couldn’t relate to either of the storytellers, Deirdre and Theo. There wasn’t one I liked, or one I disliked. What was it about Her Last Breath that I didn’t like? The characters. I gave it three stars on Good Reads, but I have to say that feels like i was being generous. I really wanted to like this book but I just didn’t. After the disappointment of The Secret Wife, I’ve been disappointed again by Her Last Breath. I’m not having a good week when it comes to finding books I love.
